Knowing what steps to take when it comes to building your brand awareness over social media can be incredibly confusing.
From content and ads to sponsoring posts and being consistent. I mean, there are influencers that build their whole business model around one social media platform! So, how can you succeed using social media?
In this article, we’ll discuss the different options you have and how they can work separately or together to help drive traffic to the services or products on your website and create a successful social media strategy.
Sound good? Let’s jump in!
First on our list is content. When it comes to social media strategy, one of the most important things you can do is build a good flow of content.
In my opinion, there are two separate categories that you can group content into. The first is consistent content and the second is quality content.
Both types of content are great, but they both serve different purposes.
For the sake of this article and example, when we think of consistency, we want to be thinking of having the same type of posts and posting them on a regular basis. One of the fastest ways to grow your influence and reach on social media is to create a great content strategy. This will most likely come in the form of deciding and planning when and what to post ahead of time so that you can build a social media calendar to keep you on track.
A great source to dive into if you’re really looking to help develop a more consistent content flow for your social media posting is this article from Lauren Payne of Auburn Advertising. The author breaks down these two areas of content as well as a few others and gives several tips on how to be consistent.
Quality content is something that can shape not only your audience but how your brand is perceived on social media and other online channels. Quality content can be seen in several different forms. If you’re a photographer, it’s probably going to be some high-quality images or examples of what you can do.
At 8-bit Rex, quality content is sharing animations and designs we create, as well as customer experiences that our clients have. It’s important to note that no matter the platform you are using to post your content to you should always be proofreading and doing your best to form well-written and well-thought-out captions and copy.
Another thing that I believe is highly notable for businesses that are looking to build a brand is to know what each social platform is capable of. Over on Hootsuite, they’re doing some great work with research on Instagram and how users are interacting with the businesses and accounts they come in contact with.
In the end, it is best to merge both strategies and create quality content on a consistent basis. Doing this will in turn help grow your brand awareness and help create a connection with your customers and clients.

Social Media Advertising
There are a few different forms of advertising on social media and it’s especially important to know which one will help you reach your target audience and grow your brand awareness most effectively.
Over on Connection Cafe, Richard wrote a great article breaking down the 5 most effective platforms for social media advertising. No surprise – Facebook
By growing in your knowledge of these platforms you will be able to gain deeper insights into your target audience and ways to reach them. Your social media strategy will be largely benefited by the work you put into knowing your platform and what it offers.
So, research, research, research!
Different Ad Options
Within each of the different social media platforms, you will find a few different ways that you can market your brand, page, services, or content. Knowing which one of these suits your companies needs can be extremely challenging. It’s important to first develop a solid advertising strategy.
Over on Inc., there is an excellent article that can help you design a great advertising strategy to assist with your social media strategy. A simple overview of the ad strategy laid out by Inc. includes a positioning statement, identifying your target audience, detailing the media you plan to use, as well as the actual implementation of the ad campaign. I’ll let Inc. expound on the rest.
As a small or large business, social media has increasingly become a huge part of marketing. Earlier I referenced a Hootsuite article which contained statistics showing social media interaction. Within that article, it was stated that 60% of Instagram users discover products and 75% take action after their discovery. A great way to be reaching that audience is by using the advertising that is integrated within that social media platform (Instagram).
So, if your company is a product-based business, maybe it’s time to start thinking about Instagram marketing.
Using Both Methods
For optimal success, your company is going to want to take steps toward using both methods. When both methods are implemented you will find the most ROI for your social media efforts.

Cole Anderson is a student at North Central University where he studies music. As a music major, he is obviously very interested and talented in playing guitar and other forms of music. When he’s not studying, writing, or playing guitar, you can typically find him hanging out with his girlfriend Jessica or being a good person and helping someone in need (cause he’s just like that).
